Ice hockey center forward Padmashree Zafar Iqbal showed his game at the Olympic Games in Moscow and the Indian ice hockey team won the gold medal. Padmashree Zafar Iqbal advised the players to play with all their might at the Tokyo Olympics.
Born in Aligarh in 1956, the father of Padma Shri Zafar Iqbal, Late. Professor Mohammad Shahabuddin Ahmed was a teacher and head of the chemistry department at the AMU. Zafar Iqbal completed his training at the Minto Circle AMU. He then completed his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from AMU Zakir Hussain College of Engineering and Technology. In 1980 he won a gold medal for the country at the Moscow Olympics as a representative of the Indian ice hockey team. In 1984 Zafar Iqbal was honored with the tricolor of the Indian team at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, USA. He was the national coach of the Indian hockey team. During his training, the Indian ice hockey team won a silver medal at the Asian Games in Hiroshima in 1984. Padmashree Zafar Iqbal said that wearing the tricolor was the proudest moment of his life. He said the athletes will do their best to win a medal for the country at the Tokyo Olympics.
It is no less proud for India that this year the big team was selected after meeting the competitive standards of the Olympic Games. Without a doubt, the performance of our players will be great.
