Women Keep Teej Fast For Unbroken Good Fortune

For the long life of husband, women observe Hartalika Teej fast on Thursday. In the evening, by worshiping Mother Parvati and Lord Shankar according to the law and wishing for unbroken good fortune.
The Tritiya date of Bhadrapada month is known as Haritalika Teej. On this day women observe Nirjala fast. In this fast of about 36 hours, there is a law to not even take water.
This fast was first performed by Mother Parvati. On this day, Goddess Parvati was received as Lord Bholenath’s husband. Since then, married women keep this fast for unbroken good fortune. Whereas unmarried girls keep this fast and get a suitable groom.
The women made preparations for the worship of Lord Shiva by taking a vow of fast on Thursday morning. All the women reached the nearby Ganga Ghats in the afternoon and took bath. In the evening, after making sixteen adornments, the idols of Lord Shankar-Parvati Ganesh, Kartikeya and Nandi made clay idols and worshiped according to the law.
Also, they were offered bhog. Then Aarti was performed with Mangal songs. After mass worship in many houses and localities, the story of Haritalika fast was heard and songs were sung to the glory of Shiva Parvati. Women also did night awakenings. The most enthusiasm was seen among the newly weds to start the fast of Teej.
Whereas unmarried girls also fasted with great enthusiasm to get a suitable groom. This was followed by Bhajan Kirtan programs.
