Royal Challengers Bangalore name Faf Du Plessis As his next captain on March 12, just two weeks before IPL 2022. He will take over the reins from batting megastar Virat Kohli, who led the franchise for nine seasons from 2013 to 2021. The three-time finalist picked the veteran. Batsmen for an amount of INR seven crores in the two-day IPL 2022 mega auction last month.

Following his appointment as the new captain of the Bengaluru-based franchise, congratulatory messages poured in for Faf from all corners including his predecessor Kohli, former franchise CSK, and ex-Protege teammate and best friend AB de Villiers. Now, the South African batsman has praised Virat and also said that he will take inputs from the batting icon.

“Virat Kohli, not only for RCB but also for the international game, he is one of the most respected leaders of the game. Huge respect for what he has done with a bat in his hand but also from a captaincy perspective. He has changed Indian cricket and I have seen it play against India over time. I could see the footprint of that leadership in the Indian team. A competitive, fit team that was fighting with fire,” said Faf du Plessis while speaking at the RCB Unbox event in Bengaluru.

“He has an extremely strong leadership style. It is something we will need even if he is not the captain, the energy that he brings to himself and also to the team is extremely important to us. So That way, we will try and use it as much as possible”, he said.

Despite being released by defending champions Chennai Super Kings, the Proteas sensation was instrumental in their fourth title win. He had an outstanding performance of the 2021 season, where he finished as the second highest run-scorer with 633 runs in 16 matches. The 37-year-old is looking to make a fresh start as Royal Challengers Bangalore, crowning the first IPL.

RCB will start its IPL 2022 campaign as they lock horns with Punjab Kings at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai on March 27.
