Mahoba. As part of the ODF Plus, 5375 toilets are being built throughout the district in villages that have been declared Open Defecation Free (ODF) as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin). To this end, the Panchayati Raj Department has interviewed and identified 600 beneficiaries so far. At the direction of the government, the Panchayati Raj department has started preparations for the construction of these toilets. Construction work will begin in August.
In the 2015-16 fiscal year, the Swachh Bharat Mission was implemented to make the dream of cleanliness come true. Thereafter, 521 villages with 273 gram panchayats of the district were declared ODF. For each toilet, the government provides the beneficiary with an amount of Rs 12,000. Although the district was declared an ODF on paper, the local villages could not get rid of the open stool. As part of ODF Plus, the government has set a target of 5,375 toilets for villages to be free from open stool.
