Kannauj. Today the vote on the office of President of Zilla Panchayat will take place. In the election, Shyam Singh Yadav from SP and Priya Shakya from BJP face each other. The district administration has completed preparations for holding the vote in the district court’s courtroom. The vote will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. After the votes have been counted, the result will be announced. The win-loss numbers will likely depend on the division and pressure from the independent and rebel camps.
There are 28 Zilla Panchayat members in the district. SP has named Shyam Singh Yadav, Panchayat District member from District 23, as its candidate. On the other hand, Priya Shakya, who became an independent district member of the Panchayat from District 16, was installed by the BJP. Her and her husband Omkar’s expulsion from the party has been canceled. In purely mathematical terms, there are 15 (three rebels) from the SP, eight from the BJP, one from the BSP and four independent district Panchayat members. Preparations were made for the elections to convert the assembly building into a police station. Barricades were erected on Tirwa Road, the entrance point of the Collectorate campus. There were also barricades in three places a short distance away. So that nobody but the member can enter.
Panchayat District members cannot use cell phones
The district administration has barricaded eight places. Barricades were carried out at two locations in Pal Chauraha, Gol Kuan Chauraha, Overbridge, Collectorate Mod, Collectorate Gate, Tirwa Crossing Road and the Collectorate site. DM Rakesh Kumar Mishra said that any activity on the Collectorate premises will be videotaped. About six more cameras were installed on campus for this purpose. Only members of Zilla Panchayat can enter the premises of the Collectorate. Apart from that, no outsider is allowed. Not even a public representative can get inside. Zilla Panchayat members cannot take a cell phone with them.
