Aarti Mahendra was a strong SP candidate in Puranpur seat. It was believed that the SP would get the benefit of the Sikh and peasant protests. Also, the SC vote will give them an edge. but that did not happen. The SC vote is definitely spilled from the BSP. This vote went to BJP instead of SP. The SP could not make a big division in the scheduled votes. Experts say that if the SP and BSP candidates had made a big division in the votes of the Scheduled Castes, it would have been difficult for Baburam Paswan to become an MLA again. It is also important here that Ashok Raja had contested from BSP after rebelling against BJP. He is considered an important leader of the Scheduled Castes but he could not leave any impact. That’s why the election result could not be reversed. BSP has bridged the gap of farmer’s protest, after the year 2017, again in 2022 this seat went to the account of BJP. When Ashok Raja, who contested from BSP, was talked about in this regard, he said that the votes of the Scheduled Castes were met at many booths through personal contact. But this time the trend of BSP’s grassroot workers and ardent supporters was not towards BSP. As a result BSP got very less votes. BJP got more support.
