“The court’s sham decision is the latest in a series of attempts to silence Navalny,” State Department spokesman Ned Price said.

A Russian court sentenced Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny to nine years in prison on Tuesday.

Washington:

The United States on Tuesday condemned a Russian court ruling found Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny guilty of additional charges, saying it was an attempt to silence him and divert attention from the invasion of Ukraine.

“The court’s sham decision is the latest in a series of attempts to silence Navalny,” State Department spokesman Ned Price said.

“This disturbing decision … is another example of the Russian government’s widespread crackdown on dissent and freedom of expression, aimed at hiding the brutal Kremlin’s war and an unprovoked war against Ukraine.”
