Ukraine-Russia war: The last two meetings on the Belarus-Ukraine border failed to stop fighting, but the sides agreed to allow humanitarian corridors for civilians to escape.
One of Kyiv’s negotiators said on Friday that Ukraine plans to hold a third round of talks with Russian officials later this week to try to end fighting triggered by Moscow’s invasion.
“The third phase could be tomorrow or the day after that, we are in constant contact,” said Mykhailo Podolik, adviser to the President of Ukraine on the eighth day of the war.
Podolik, speaking in the western city of Lviv, said Kyiv was waiting for President Vladimir Putin’s response from the Kremlin to confirm the timing of the talks.
But Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s office in Berlin said the German leader had spoken to Putin on a call and was assured talks would resume over the weekend.
The last two meetings on the Belarus-Ukraine border failed to stop fighting, but both sides have agreed in principle to allow humanitarian corridors for civilians to escape.
