According to the information, the number of leopards in 2020 was 65. This year, the number of images captured with trap cameras has increased to 120. In general, leopards keep their distance from humans, but also move to residential areas in search of food. When the hunt became more severe for several years, their numbers increased.
Mahesh Prasad, Valmiki Nagar’s ranger, said the number of leopards is increasing. In villages near the forest, they go there for the selection of leopards. The number of cameras installed in VTR has increased. The Valmiki Tiger Reserve, Chitwan National Park and Sohgibarwan Wildlife Division are linked. Wild animals come and go from all three places.

In the past two years, leopards have hunted around 500 goats. This number is based on the pet owner’s request. Often times, pets that go to the forest are also hunted by other wildlife, including leopards. Anoop Kumar Verma, ranger of the Shivpur Unit of the Sohgibarwan Wildlife Division said that the female leopard becomes dangerous when she has her young. Threats against corpses can attack people. There is also talk of an increase in the number of leopards in the Shivpur unit.
