The Nordostbahn travels with HOG 34 trains in the direction of environmental protection
Northeast Railway will electrify all of its trains before 2023 according to the Railway Department’s timetable

When it comes to pollution, some images pop up before us, like the smoke from the vehicles or the diesel engine of the train. But without a fast transport system, civilization cannot develop. In such a situation, the means of transport used for the progress of the country should be environmentally friendly, it is also necessary to pay attention to it. Indian Railways has achieved the greatest success in this direction.
North Eastern Railway’s chief public relations officer, Pankaj Kumar Singh, said the Ministry of Railways had decided to electrify all broad gauge lines in the interests of the environment. ‘Indian Railways’ is now working in mission mode and is becoming the largest green railroad in the world.
He said the goal was to become a “zero carbon emitter” by 2030. To make this ambitious step by Indian Railways a success, only 15 miles of the North Eastern Railway, once known as the Chhoti Line, were electrified before 2014-15. There are currently 2287 km of railway line electrified, that is 73 percent of the total wide distance (distance km) of the Northeast Railway.

Electric trains run on all major railway lines

Pankaj announced that the North Eastern Railway ranked second out of all of Indian Railways in electrification work for the past two fiscal years 2019-20 and 2020-21, which means that electric trains now run on all major rail routes.
Said that Deutsche Bahn is doing everything it can to protect the environment. There is a ‘Head on Generation’ (HOG) arrangement in this sequence. The electricity in coaches is supplied by electric locomotives from overhead lines. As a result, the utility of diesel automobiles has come to an end. A total of 34 trains run by the North Eastern Railway with HOG. In the last fiscal year 2020-21, fuel savings of around Rs 21 billion were achieved.
Let us inform you here that the Railway Board has set itself the goal of electrifying all major Indian Railways routes in December 2023, which the North Eastern Railway will achieve in time.
As part of the “Swachh Bharat Mission”, Indian Railways installed bio-toilets on almost all trains. For this reason, the dirt (faeces and urine) no longer falls from the wagons onto the tracks. This effort prevented 2 lakh 74 thousand liters of dirt from falling onto the tracks every day.

Saving about Rs.400 crore per year in corrosion of rails and their fittings through the use of bio-toilets

Although this saved the environment, the corrosion of the tracks and their fittings was also stopped by this dirt. Bio-toilets were installed in 3355 wagons on the North Eastern Railway. Of the remaining 14 double-decker cars, organic toilets are installed or are in the works in five cars.
He said the entire Indian Railways is estimated to save about Rs 400 billion annually by preventing the corrosion of tracks and their equipment.
As part of the cleanliness program itself, the North Eastern Railway ranked number one among all of Indian Railways in disposing of record scrap in 2020-21.

The railway gets a billion from solar energy alone

The North Eastern Railway has also done important work toward energy conservation and water conservation. In order to save energy, solar panels were installed in the office buildings and train stations of the Nordostbahn. Around 25 lakh solar power is produced from this. As a result, there was a saving of approximately Rs. 1 crore.
With a view to saving water, a “Rain Water Harvesting System” is being installed in all of these buildings with a roof area of more than 200 square meters. This system is already functional in most railway buildings.

In all three divisions, three green tree nurseries are also growing on the edge of the track.

The North Eastern Railway runs a tree plantation program each year. A total of nine lakh seedlings were planted in 2020-21. This year, the goal was also set to plant 8 lakh seedlings that started on June 5th, today, Environment Day. In this episode, many seedlings were planted by railway offices and colonies. Railroad workers who themselves live in railroad government apartments are eager to plant seedlings in their homes. As an innovation, the name tag of the officer / employee who planted the facility was also attached. In each of the three divisions of the North Eastern Railway, three green tree nurseries have been developed in the open areas along the route.
