The 68th National Awards were announced in New Delhi on Friday night. A 10-member panel led by filmmaker Vipul Shah recently submitted its report to Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur. The movie 2020 Surarai Pottru won five awards. While Suriya won Best Actor, his co-star Aparna Balamurali won Best Actress. However, Suriya shared the best actor award with Ajay Devgn for Tanhaji: The unsung warrior. Suriya issued a statement on social media expressing his gratitude to his well-wishers. He wrote: “My heartfelt thanks for all the love and well wishes that have reached us so far and enriched our lives. We are thrilled with the five national awards for Surarai Pottru. The overwhelming response to our film, released direct to OTT during a pandemic, has made our eyes water with joy. Our joy is redoubled at this national recognition Surarai Pottruas it is a testament to Sudha Kongara’s many years of hard work and creative vision of Captain Gopinath’s story.”

Surarai Pottru based on the life of Simplifly Deccan founder G. Gopinath. Suriya congratulated director Sudha Kongara and his co-star Aparna Balamurali on winning the Best Screenplay and Best Actress awards, respectively. Even composer GV Prakash won a National Award for Best Background Score.

“My warmest congratulations to our film’s National Award winners – Aparna Balamurai (Best Actress), GV Prakash (Background Music). Sudha Kongara & Shalini Usha Nair (Best Screenplay). My sincere appreciation and gratitude to all the talent that stood by our side during the making of this fine film. The Best Film award is a great recognition for Team 2D ​​and I thank them along with my best friend and CEO Rajsekar Karpoorasundarapandian,” the statement said.

He made special mention of Ms. Jyotika, who produced and acted Surarai Pottru. “My special thanks go to my Jyotika, who insisted that I produce and star in it Surarai Pottru.” He dedicated the award to his children and family. “My love and ‘thank you’ to everyone who has encouraged my efforts so far and to my Amma & Appa, Karthi & Brinda who have always supported me. I dedicate this award to my children, Diya and Dev, and to my loving family,” he wrote.

He also thanked his fans for the well wishes, ending his note by saying, “The National Award gives me the motivation to work harder and speak up…bringing good films to all of you now and always. Suriya is celebrating his birthday today. After his name was announced on Friday, the actor started trending on Twitter, with fans calling his win the “best birthday present ever.”
