So Far Only Five Sugar Mills Have Made Full Payment Rs 1324 Crore Outstanding On 12 Mills

The sugarcane department and administrative officers warned the sugar mill managers several times to pay the outstanding cane price. Often, strict instructions are being given in the meeting regarding payment, but it is not affecting the 12 sugar mills of the division and about Rs 1324 crore payment has been made arrears. Out of the 17 sugar mills of the division, only five have paid the cane price in full.All the efforts of the sugarcane department to make the cane price payment on time are proving to be unsuccessful. Of the 17 sugar mills in the division, only five have paid the full cane price. While the remaining 12 mills have arrears of Rs 1324 crore. The sugarcane department has also issued several notices to the sugar mills for payment of the arrear cane price at the earliest. Even after this, sugar mills are lax in clearing the arrears.

Progressive farmer Seth Pal Singh of village Nandi Ferozepur, Mehak Singh, farmer of Chaura Khurd, Sudhir Kumar, farmer of Birvi, etc. say that due to non-payment of cane price, farmers have faced financial crisis. Farmers have to borrow or take loans for their children’s fees, medicine and even for the cost of cultivation. He said that either payment should be made within 14 days from the date of supply of sugarcane in the mill, failing which interest should be given on the outstanding cane price.

Five sugar mills of the Mandal have made full payment of cane price. These include one sugar mill in Saharanpur and four in Muzaffarnagar district. 78 percent sugarcane price payment has been done in the mandal. 12 sugar mills still owe Rs 1324 crore.
