Progressive Seeds Can Be Processed In The District

Saharanpur. The Agriculture Department, engaged in the exercise of increasing the income of farmers, is focusing on providing improved seeds at the local level. So that the seeds of new species of crops to be brought out by research institutes can be made available to the local farmers as soon as possible. For this, there is a plan to provide a grant of Rs 60 lakh to Farmers Producer Organization (FPO) for setting up seed plants. Seeds of new species of different crops prepared by research institutes take a long time to reach the farmers. Private sector companies bring the seeds of improved varieties to the market quickly. Due to which the farmers are compelled to buy the seeds of improved varieties at a higher price. In order to make available the seeds of high quality new species at affordable rates to the farmers, the focus is on getting it produced and processed locally. The farmers’ producer organization will get new varieties extracted from research institutes and sowing of improved seeds in the fields of its members. The high quality seeds obtained from there will be processed in the processing plant and provided to the farmers. Due to which the new seed will reach the farmers in less time. This will increase the productivity of the crops and the income of the farmers. Version – FPO will only get grant To set up a seed plant, the Farmer Producer Organization should be at least two years old. For setting up the plant, the FPO should have land on his own or on lease. The grant will be given for processing plant machinery and shed. The FPO should have at least 250 members. Also, the annual turnover of the FPO should be ten lakhs and profit of one lakh rupees. Only the Farmer Producer Organization fulfilling these conditions will be eligible for a grant of sixty lakh rupees.
