Srinagar (Mahoba). The border wall of the city’s Government Inter College, erected three months ago for Rs 25 lakh, collapsed in the very first rain. Fortunately, the college was closed at the time of the incident, which avoided a major accident.
The construction of the 250-meter-long boundary wall in Government Inter College was carried out by the Rural Engineering Department. The department had taken over the tendering process for the construction work, but the contractor used inferior material in the construction of the perimeter wall. Complaints have been lodged with the department heads but no action has been taken. On Wednesday, the entire part of the 40-meter-long and two-and-a-half meter high boundary wall collapsed due to about an hour’s rainfall. When the border wall fell, the officers’ hands and feet became swollen. The school principal Purushottam Das Pataria said the contractor used substandard materials. A complaint was filed with the department’s officials, but nothing happened. As a result, the boundary wall collapsed in the rain. On the other hand, Rural Engineering Department Junior Engineer Virendra Kumar says AE has been informed of the matter. Construction works are visited. In the event of a guilty verdict, action will be taken against the contractor.
