Pathan added $6.85 million to his overseas business on Saturday, crossing the $20 million mark in just four days. The Shah Rukh Khan star’s total earnings over four days is around $21.40 million. The movie is heading toward a $26 million-plus five-day extended weekend. When traditional weekend frames are considered, i.e. Thursday-Sunday in the Middle East and Friday-Sunday elsewhere, the figure would be $19-20 million, breaking the previous record of $10.80. millions held by Padmaavat. This is despite being a mid-week release, a normal Friday release would have seen it comfortably surpass the $20 million mark.
There are no words to describe what Pathan has done abroad in the last four days. Obviously the numbers are marginally higher in India due to inflation and tax changes but in real terms we have seen them in the past with Sultan, Dhoom 3, Chennai Express etc so one can have something of sense. Perhaps, but what is happening abroad is unfathomable and has never been seen before. The film has broken records in all markets, be it Asia, Europe or America. Some of them have seen lifetime records fall in a matter of days.
We have some movies that have done big numbers overseas, but there is always some sub-indexed region, eg Gulf for Padmaavat, US and Australia for Dilwale etc. Not so in the case of Pathan because every region, every country is firing on all cylinders. Even a market like the UK, which has been dormant for a long time, is posting absurd numbers.
