Shahjahanpur. The compound of Vikas Bhawan and the Collectorate had been a place for parking vehicles for a long time, but for a month there was so much of two-wheelers and four-wheelers that the premises of both the government buildings have been converted into vehicle parking lots. From lawyers and litigants coming for court-court work in the afternoon, it is becoming difficult for the general public to park their vehicles, to go to government offices, it is also becoming difficult to get out of the vehicles.
Till two years ago, the contract for vehicle stands in the premises of both the government buildings continued. The then DM Amrit Tripathi, seeing the increasing number of vehicles in the Collectorate premises, closed the vehicle stand contract there and allowed to build a vehicle stand only in Vikas Bhawan. The land lying vacant in front of the residences of GIC Colony was contracted to park the vehicles of collectorate and court visitors, but so many vehicles were parked there too that it became difficult to get space for those who came later. The space in front of the DRDA office behind Vikas Bhawan was vacated for Prerna Canteen, then when the development building surrounded the other three directions, the vehicle stand contractor started parking the bike on both sides on the way to the collectorate gate.
The special thing is that during the last decade, the offices of Vikas Bhawan have come under fire twice due to electrical short circuit. Earlier, all the old records of the Horticulture Department were engulfed in flames. About two years ago, after an explosion in the main cable of the power connection in the rear part of Vikas Bhavan, the fire spread in the offices and the fire brigade could barely control it. Now if such an incident happens, it will become difficult even to carry fire extinguishers there due to the glut of vehicles.
Many vehicles are left lying in the parking lot
In order to prevent overcrowding of vehicles near Collectorate and Jaji, DM Inder Vikram Singh had arranged vehicle parking spaces behind the district jail and under Govindganj flyover last year. Both these places to park vehicles were built with the intention that people shopping in Bahadurganj and Sadar Bazar, apart from the court, can park their vehicles in the markets instead of stopping them on the side of the road, but people can walk even a short distance. Don’t want to bother. This is the reason why few vehicles are sometimes seen parked at these two places.
