Ukraine War: Hungary has taken with it about 191,350 refugees fleeing the Ukraine war.

The United Nations said on Tuesday that more than two million people have fled Ukraine since Russia launched its full-scale offensive less than two weeks ago.

“Today the number of refugees from Ukraine has reached two million people,” UN refugee chief Filippo Grandi said in a tweet.

The UN refugee agency UNHCR said that since February 24, 2,011,312 people have left the war-torn country and moved to neighboring countries.

Poland alone has received nearly half of those fleeing Ukraine, with Tuesday’s data showing 1.2 million had entered the country in the past 13 days.

Meanwhile, Hungary has taken in about 191,350 people, Slovakia has taken 140,745 and Russia itself has seen 99,300 people cross over from Ukraine, the data showed.

The UNHCR found that Moldova and Romania had more than 82,000 refugees each, according to data collected on Sunday, while more than 210,000 who fled neighboring countries have already emigrated to other European countries.

On Sunday, Grandi said the war in Ukraine was fueling Europe’s fastest growing refugee crisis since World War II.

“It doesn’t stop,” he said at a news conference in Oslo on Tuesday after traveling to Moldova, Poland and Romania.

For comparison, Grandi said that the Balkan wars in Bosnia and Kosovo saw “probably two to three million lives, but over a period of eight years.”

While “other parts of the world have seen it,” Grandi said, “in Europe it is the first time since World War II,” he reiterated.

After several failed attempts, Russia on Tuesday pledged to open humanitarian corridors to allow civilians to flee Ukrainian cities that have been hit by artillery fire.
