A year ago a budget of 93 lakhs for repairs was requested, but has not yet been received

Bareilly. Preparations are being made to make the city chic with an amount of more than two thousand million euros, but despite the severe deterioration, the budget of 93 lakhs is not even available for repairing the fortress bridge. A year ago, experts said in their report that this bridge needs to be repaired immediately after it was labeled dangerous, prompting the government to ask for this budget.
In that one year the fortress bridge became more dilapidated. There are many large potholes on the bridge. Under the weight of the road built on the bridge, the network of bars on which the concrete slab rests sagged. The spice layer has also fallen off on this saree. The flexible mesh of the bars is clearly visible from below. Last year, a team of experts examined the fort bridge on behalf of the government. In their report, this team pointed out the need for immediate repair of the bridge and described it as dangerous. Thereafter, a budget of 93 lakhs was requested from the government to repair the bridge, but even after a year this budget was not received by the government. This report was also sent to the government. Even so, it was not taken seriously, and officials did not lobby the government for the budget.

Corruption by PWD officials added weight

The 40-year-old fortress bridge fell into disrepair prematurely due to corruption by PWD officials. In fact, every time the PWD renovated the fortress bridge road without removing the old layer of asphalt, a new layer was put on top of it. Because of this, the weight of the bridge increased by thousands of tons more than its capacity. With this additional load on the dilapidated bridge, heavy traffic is constantly passing by. For this reason, the engineers at the civil engineering department also consider the bridge to be very dangerous. About two years ago, PWD’s chief engineer at the time, Rakesh Rajvanshi had asked IIT Roorkee for technical help to remove the old layers of the bridge, but no help came from there.
