The hopes of starting air service soon from Sonbhadra, the last district of Uttar Pradesh adjoining four states of Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, have suffered a setback. The High Court has put a stay on the construction of Mayorpur airport in the district involved in Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s dream project. After the dispute over the compensation of land, on the appeal of the affected farmer, the court stopped the work and asked the administration to file a reply. The next hearing in this matter will be held on September 20.The airport work has been completely stopped after the court order. There is a direction to make this airport operational by October, but after the work stopped due to the order of the High Court, there has been a confusion on it. Under the Regional Connectivity Scheme, an airport is being constructed at Myorpur.

The Airport Authority of India has got the responsibility of construction. Jauhar Hussain, who was claiming to have his own land in the land acquired for the airport, had objected to the administration. With no hearing from anywhere, he filed a petition in the High Court.

The petitioner stated that in the year 2010, he had purchased the land from Hindalco’s physician Dr. Adukia, being a transferable bhumidhar. Due to the objection raised during the filing of the land, the trial went on for eight years. In the year 2018, there was an order to dismiss the filing in his favor. After the order, the owner also became, but that order could not be recorded in Khatauni.The petitioner alleges that with the connivance of the revenue officials, their land was registered in the forest reserve. Said that after going to the airport about three bighas of land, he had to go to the High Court for not getting anything as compensation and deleting his name from Khatauni. The High Court while hearing the matter has ordered to maintain status quo on the spot. The next date in the trial is September 20.

Tehsildar (Duddhi) Suresh Chandra Shukla said that the work of the airport has been stopped for the time being on the orders of the High Court. After taking instructions from higher officials, construction work will be started in other parts except the disputed land. Myorpur is about 100 km away from Sonbhadra district headquarter. If all goes well, the flight service can start within one to two months. With the start of Mayorpur airport, two airports will be in Purvanchal only, including Varanasi.
