The bench said, it is very surprising that even after 50 years of the formation of the state, there is no roster system, whereas the system of reservation in government jobs has been there for 50 years.

The Meghalaya High Court has put a stay on all the recruitment processes of the state government. The court said, till the roster system is not implemented, there will be no recruitment. A bench of Chief Justice Sanjeev Banerjee said during the hearing of a petition on Tuesday, “The absence of a roster system is a very disappointing situation.” This increases the chances of nepotism and arbitrariness and makes the situation worse. Therefore, till the roster system is implemented, all types of recruitment process will be stopped. This restriction will be applicable to all government agencies and institutions where the reservation policy is in force.

We would like to ask how the reservation policy is being implemented without roster system. What is even more surprising is that similar recruitments are being made in various posts of the High Court since the last decade. Advocate General Amit Kumar on behalf of the state government also admitted that reservation cannot be implemented without roster. The next hearing of the matter will be on April 20.
