“I think we were 7-10 runs short in terms of batting, it would have made a difference in the end. We started well with the ball, but the two overs in which he scored 30 runs brought him back into the game. IPL is tough so I tried to show some toughness (against Malik). That (hit on the helmet) woke me up. He bowled well and stuck to his plans, the credit goes to him for the way he bowled. We need to learn from our mistakes, we will talk and laugh because in a few days we will have our next match.
Kane Williamson, the winning captain and player of the match, said:
“I thought it was a very good game of cricket. Maybe it was an equal total. They had a strong bowling attack. We wanted to partner and we got it. People have become clear about roles. There are many challenges. The execution was pretty good. It was tough to hit through the line. Nice to have some partnerships and cross the line. There might be convulsions for Rahul and hopefully he gets well soon. Washington too. Hope he gets well soon too. It’s just about people going out there and trying to perform for the team. It was a pretty good performance today.”
