Rampur. For the president of Panchayat district, BJP placed a bet on Khyaliram Lodhi. His name was announced on Friday in the presence of the Union Minister for Minority Affairs, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, at a meeting at the BJP office. Khyaliram Lodhi has an old connection with the BJP, having previously chaired District President Panchayat. Now the biggest challenge for Khyaliram Lodhi will be to win the support of 11 more members as the number of members in the BJP camp is only seven.
The BJP couldn’t do better in the elections for Zilla Panchayat. Of the 34 members, seven were able to win candidates supported by the BJP. Khyaliram Lodhi’s name was in the foreground for District President Panchayat of the BJP. Although Manju Patel, wife of former DCB chairman Amrish Patel, and Hansraj Pappu, husband of the former block chief, were also contenders, Khyaliram Lodhi’s name was approved on Friday. District President Abhay Gupta announced his name at a meeting at the party office in the presence of Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, which was unanimously adopted. Lodhi held the chairmanship of the Panchayat district president as early as 1998. Currently, Khyaliram Lodhi has been elected as a member of the Zilla Panchayat from District 12. After Khyaliram is declared a candidate, the BJP has to win the support of 11 members as only seven BJP-supported candidates won the Panchayat district elections. In such a situation, the support of 18 members is required for a majority in a district panchayat of 34 members. In the recently concluded District Panchayat elections, 11 SP-backed candidates, seven BJP-backed, three BSP-backed, and two Congressional-backed candidates won the election. In addition, eleven independent elections have been won.
