“It’s like Virat Kohli has been out of shape for a while”

Vicrant Rona Star Kiccha Sudeep offered an unexpected explanation for the Hindi film industry’s current plight – comparing it to cricketer Virat Kohli struggling with his form. Speaking at a press conference ahead of the release of Vicrant Rona Later that week, the Kannada star, 50, commented on the box office performance of Southern films compared to Hindi films, with a reminder that Bollywood could not have thrived without a foundation of quality content. A meager patch at the box office doesn’t erase past glory, just as a bad day on the court can’t erase Virat Kohli’s records, Kiccha Sudeep said.

In the Vicrant Rona meet, Kiccha Sudeep said: “Many films are made in a year, not every film does well. Some movies do it, some movies don’t. That’s not to say we generalize and say (the industry) dominates. There are good times for everything. If the Hindi film industry didn’t make great films, if it didn’t have great people, how would you survive for so many years,” reports PTI news agency.

“It’s just a matter of (time)… It’s like Virat Kohli is out of shape for a while. Do you want to take away his records? It doesn’t work that way… Every industry stands by its potential,” the actor added.

The context, of course, is the box-office-wrecking numbers produced by Southern blockbusters RRR, Pushpa and KGF: Chapter 2. In contrast, Hindi films have struggled with films like at the ticket office Dhaakad, shamshera and Samrat Prithviraj perform poorly. hit films such as Jugjugg Jeeyo and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 dented the box office, but couldn’t keep up with the profits of the South films.

Both Sudeep and Salman commented on the synergy between the Hindi and Southern film industries. “We work with Hindi Films, Sir (Salman Khan) is now supporting our film… Why would she (Jacqueline Fernandez) come within the industry and do that, why should we call her? Leading role in Hyderabad, he goes (to the shoot) and comes back. Why should he do that? We are all safe. It’s a nice thing to share ideas, to work together… It’s a nice atmosphere that we have,” said Kiccha Sudeep, reports PTI.

“I’ve worked with a lot of southern talent, I’ve worked with him (Sudeepa), Prakash Raj, Prabhudeva, a lot of southern directors and DOPs… All southern people have worked here and had great success,” said Salman Khan .

He also explained why he had turned up in person to campaign Vicrant Rona. In response to a comment from actress Neetha Ashok, who was surprised he tweeted the film’s trailer, Salman Khan said: “I have to do this, I don’t want to take any losses. South movies are doing really well.”

Vicrant Ronaan action-adventure film directed by Anup Bhandari, is out this week in multiple languages.
