Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, who is on a three-day visit to Australia, said that the dual degree program under the India-Australia trade agreement will enhance cooperation between the universities of the two countries. With this, more and more Indian students will get the opportunity of quality education.
He said that each other’s educational qualifications would be recognized in both the countries. We are also looking at giving joint degrees. Degrees from IITs and Universities of Australia in India or medical colleges in India and Australia can be combined. This will give more exposure, experience, new skills, new knowledge to the students of both the countries. Due to the dual degree, the cost will also be much less, almost in half. This will help both recognize each other’s degrees and course material. Students in the dual degree program will be allowed to study for two years in Australia and two years in India. Negotiations on rules in this regard are going on.
Dan Tehan, Australia’s Minister of Trade, Tourism and Investment, said the event was a great one for both countries. Whether you are an Indian student or an Australian, you can do a year or two of your degree in either country. This will also increase cooperation between universities. This is a special part of the agreement.
