Hina Khan condemns elitist system at Cannes

Television star Hina Khan is a very confident girl and one of those people who does not hesitate to speak her mind. The actress said in an interview to Anupama Chopra at Cannes that she was “disappointed” to not be invited to the opening ceremony at the Cannes 2022 Indian Pavilion. She called for the ‘elite system’ that still exists in the entertainment business.

She said, “You know we all belong to the same industry. We are from the entertainment business. We have all come here to represent India. And I am very excited about the launch of my film’s poster. They know That I will come to the India pavilion. I will launch the poster of my film. I was very excited, then the news came… Before that I want to tell you that this is the elite system, the elite game that still exists. The opening ceremony which is Happened at the Indian pavilion. Everyone was there.. All talents, not just from Bollywood, my contemporaries, we had singers, we had many famous talents. Not that I envy them. I am proud of them. But Plus it was disappointing that I wasn’t there.”

She further added, “When he was doing Ghoomar, I could at least have cheered for him in the audience. I felt very proud of my country. I don’t blame the actors or the celebs but it is the people on the field who make it possible. I don’t want to blame my contemporaries. We all talk about women empowerment, equality, but I think it’s easier said than done. Maybe next year when I come to Cannes, I will be a part of it.
