Hardoi. Patients of corona, dengue etc. will no longer have to scour other cities for the sake of plasma, nor will people die due to lack of blood. The equipment of the component unit prepared in the district last four years ago has been made available to the blood bank of the district. Now the lives of four needy people can be saved with one unit of blood.
Till now one unit of blood given by any blood donor in the district can save only one life. After functioning of the component separator unit, this one unit of blood can be divided into RBC, platelets, plasma and cryo. That is, one unit of blood can be used for four people according to the need. Realizing its usefulness, in the year 2016, eight districts in the state were selected for setting up component separator units. A budget of one crore was also allocated from the government level for the establishment of the unit.
By November 2017, the unit building has been prepared behind the blood bank of the district hospital. Since then there was a wait for the equipment. Even after a long wait of four years, the equipment could not be made available here till now. Amar Ujala campaigned from time to time about the shortage of blood and also warned the health department. Amar Ujala had prominently published this news in its May 18 issue. Taking cognizance of this, Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. AK Shakya once again sent a reminder letter to the Director General of Medical and Health Services. As a result of that, the district has got the equipment for the unit. Lab Technician Mr. Aqeel Khan said that soon four people can be benefited from one unit of blood in the district by installing machines.
Four times the lives of people will be saved
Blood bank in-charge Akil Khan says that now on an average 400 units of blood are given from the blood bank in a month. Only 400 lives can be saved by this. After the work of the unit, the lives of four can be saved by dividing one unit into four places. Because then if a patient needs plasma or platelets, then the same will be given to him. RBC, plasma and purchases will be saved.
