Hardoi. The hands of the block developers tremble when it comes to paying the companies (sellers) for the materials used in the work of MNREGA. Even after performing the verification at the CDO level twice, only half of the incomplete verification report came from just one block. Now MNREGA’s Deputy Commissioner has written again to all block development officers to submit the report after reviewing the companies that are receiving a substantial portion of the payment from MNREGA.
MNREGA is operated with the aim of creating employment for more and more people in rural areas in the village. There is a provision for the payment of material and wage shares for the work to be carried out within the framework of MNREGA. 60% of the wage share and 40% of the material share can be paid. Instructions have been issued from the government level to have the companies verify the payment of the physical component. Nevertheless, the verification of the companies in the district was not carried out.
On November 7, 2020 and February 18, 2021, the then Chief Development Officer commissioned all Block Development Officers to verify the companies. After much effort, only the Todarpur Development Block’s Block Development Officer, Rishi Pal Singh, sent the report, but it was also half-incomplete. Now MNREGA Deputy Commissioner Pramod Singh Chandraul has instructed all block development officers to verify that the companies are getting a material stake in MNREGA and to submit the report in a week.
1219 firms have received a payment of Rs 73 crore
According to reliable sources, 72 crore 98 lakh 89 thousand rupees were paid in the name of the material portion of MNREGA in the district in the 2020-21 financial year. Eight crore 65 lakh 41 thousand rupees were paid to 125 Bharkhani companies.

Buying and paying for material components is a long game. Block developers also avoid scrutiny of these firms because most firms are kept on paper or are run on behalf of the family members of the MNREGA affiliates. The MNREGA Deputy Commissioner may have requested the verification report again, but it is very difficult to get the report within the prescribed deadline.
MNREGA Deputy Commissioner Pramod Singh Chandraul said that by sending letters to the block development officers, instructions were given to review the vendor (companies). If the report is not received within a week, action will be recommended to the higher departments of the department.
