Many public welfare programs are run by the federal and state governments with the aim of improving the standard of living of the population who are cut off from the mainstream. These include Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, the construction of toilets as part of the Swachhta Mission, MGNREGA, grain at affordable prices according to the National Food Security Act, various pension systems. The benefits of these programs reach few people.
