Ganga is now very close to the red mark in Varanasi. As soon as the warning point was crossed, the flood water entered the settlements from the city to the village. The Varuna, a tributary of the Ganges that divides the city of Varanasi into two parts, has assumed a formidable form. Hundreds of families living on the banks of Varuna are in trouble due to the reverse flow of Ganga.
People are forced to leave their homes and make temporary tents in the grounds and cemeteries. Some people are living on rent and some are living in relatives’ houses. On Friday, flood water started filling in Nakhighat, Maujahal, Sidhuaghat, Saraiya and Tinpulia areas located on the banks of Varuna.
Many people’s houses have been submerged by the flood waters since Saturday morning. People kept vacating the house. Due to flood waters filling the Maujahal-Nakhighat area, people were engaged in evacuating goods. The series is still on. See next slides..
