EXCLUSIVE: Pathaan writer Sridhar Raghavan says writing a film for Shah Rukh Khan was intimidating

Pathan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham, has received a great response. The film is sweeping the box office with its record numbers and the Pathan team couldn’t be happier. The movie is very special for Shah Rukh Khan fans as it marks his return to the big screen after 4 years. Pinkvilla strikes up a conversation with Pathan writer Sridhar Raghavan, who is officially on board as a mentor to YRF Spy Universe. He talked about his journey with Shah Rukh Khan and the experience of writing for Pathan.

Sridhar Raghavan on working with Shah Rukh Khan

Speaking to Pinkvilla, Sridhar Raghavan said that working with Shah Rukh Khan has been ‘incredible’. He said that Shah Rukh is an amazing person, so when he talks about a story or a script, he is very informal and it doesn’t feel like he is talking to a superstar. He further added, “I’m happy that we managed to do justice to the star and the actor.” Sridhar Raghavan said that he used to help director and writer Kundan Shah right after Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa. However, Sridhar Raghavan used to be a journalist before this, working as a police reporter when he saw Shah Rukh Khan promoting the 1989 TV series Fauji.

Talking about the same, he said: “A young man (Shah Rukh Khan) came who was promoting a show called Fauji. He came in for an interview and I was sitting across from him, and I was a crime reporter. I was looking at this guy and I was infatuated. And then after a few years I started helping Kundan Shah who is my mentor. He just did Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa which I love. So someone you’ve seen grow up in a certain way, almost as a contemporary, because if it’s 30 years of his life, it’s also 30 years of my life,” Sridhar said.

He further added that he has seen Shah Rukh Khan making larger than life movies like Darr, Baazigar and others. “And then all of a sudden they tell you that you have to write a movie for this person, and he’s intimidating in his way because you want to be able to live up to the work that he’s done and carry on.” that, and don’t lower it one step. But it is a challenge for every writer and director.

He said he was glad Pathan connected with the audience. “Somehow we did it and we made it work. He feels great,” said Sridhar Raghavan.

Directed by Siddharth Anand, Pathan stars Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham in lead roles. It opens in theaters on January 25, 2023.
