Substantiating his lineage of being one of the best actors in Hindi cinema, his lineup looks well-ordered with films spanning various genres. The actor recently finished shooting the sports drama Maidan, directed by Amit Sharma, which is a biopic about former Indian coach Syed Abdul Rahim. It chronicles the golden era of Indian football, from 1950 to 1965, when India won gold medals at the Olympic Games. The film was scheduled to be released on February 17, 2023.

And now, Pinkvilla has learned exclusively that Ajay Devgn, Boney Kapoor and Zee Studios decided together to bring the film to a new date. We hear that the highly anticipated sports drama is now set to hit the big screens on May 12, 2023. Ajay Devgn exclusively confirmed the development to Pinkvilla saying, “Maidan is one of my best movies. We (producers, directors and all the actors) think it needs a big and proper release. The visual effects of the film are handled by international studios and we want everything to line up correctly. With the film’s best interests in mind, we have now decided to release it on May 12, 2023.”
Maidaan is considered one of Ajay’s best performances to date, and the team has shown immense confidence in the film’s content during the pandemic. VFX work is in full swing to recreate the bygone era as the film’s core team aims to create an immersive cinematic experience of the sports drama for audiences. Early last year, in an exclusive interview with Pinkvilla, Boney Kapoor spoke about Maidaan. The producer had said, “Mind you, I did see the soulless movie, which matches the one we shot recently. I think this will be a landmark film in Ajay Devgan’s career. According to me, this is his best performance till date and Amit Sharma has also excelled in Tevar Badhaai Ho and Ab Maidan Tak.
It also promised a lot of drama in this film set against the backdrop of soccer with some incredible true events. “The good thing about the Maidan is that the current generation has no idea what Indian football has achieved over the years. At the Melbourne Olympics, we lost in the semifinals by own goal. There are a lot of those surprises in the script. And our film will not be just football, football, football, it has a lot of emotion attached to the players and the families,” said Boney Kapoor.
Ajay Devgan’s Next Movie List
Speaking of Ajay Devgn, the actor will next be seen in his directorial venture Bhola, who touts himself as a full-scale 3D action artist. The trailer for the film has already aroused interest among the audience, and Devgn plans to surprise everyone with various properties in the coming months, ahead of the film’s release on March 30, 2023. Drishyam 2 and also starring Abhishek Bachchan in a special appearance. In January, Ajay began filming Neeraj Pandey’s upcoming romantic thriller, which is scheduled for a June 2023 release. He has several other movies scheduled for release this year, with more details to be revealed in due course.
Maidan is Amit Sharma’s next film after the National Award winning film Badhaai Ho. Maidaan’s music and background score is composed by AR Rahman while the story is written by Akash Chawla, Arunav Joy Sengupta and Savin Quadras.
