with Moon KnightThe Marvel Cinematic Universe is setting its new stage as the experimental at its peak! Loyalists and new fans alike are loving the Oscar Isaac starrer for bringing a variety of freshness to the popular and packed Marvel table. Whereas Oscar Isaac is receiving a lot of praise for his dual avatar as Mark Spector and his dual incarnation as one of Steven Grant, as is Ethan Hawke For her antagonistic portrayal as Arthur Harrow, May Calamawi is getting a lot of love (and deservedly!) with her MCU debut as archaeologist-adventurer Laila El-Fouli.

*Spoiler Alert* As moon nights Breakout star, May Calamawi has quickly become a fan favorite and many are looking forward to a bright MCU future for Layla. In an exclusive chat with Pinkvilla, I questioned all things May Moon Knight, We candidly discussed her work experience with the “great” Oscar Isaacs when it came to playing Layla, how she was inspired by her late mother if she ever imagined Layla taking up the Moon Night spell , like Khonshu’s wishes, and a subtle “mood” tease of the final two episodes Moon Knight,

it was more, just that [Oscar Isaac] It was so great at embodying two different people, that I was just reacting to what he had given me. And over time, I noticed that I had fallen into a pattern of how energetically I would feel around Mark. [Spector] And then how did I feel around Steven? [Grant],

While we know Marvel Studios is extremely tight-lipped about any spoilers, can you tease the mood of the final two episodes of Moon Knight, especially after Episode 4?

May Calamawi Moon Night Interview 1

I think so… we’ll get more answers and maybe learn more about Mark and Steven. And again, I can’t say anything about (Episode) 6… don’t want to give anything. (smile)

Oscar Isaac does the major heavy lifting with his double performance as Mark Spector and one of his alter-egos, Steven Grant. On the other hand, you also have your work over for you as Layla constantly has to react between Mark and Steven. How did you and Oscar Isaac set up that complicated equation?

May Calamawi Moon Night Interview 2

There was no, of any kind, verbal establishment of anything. It was more, just that he was so great at embodying two different people, that I was just reacting to what he had given me. And over time, I noticed that I had fallen into a pattern of how I felt around Mark and then how I felt around Steven.

Considering the immense love she received from fans with her MCU debut as Layla, do you imagine your character will ever play the Moon Knight, as Khonshu aspires?

May Calamawi Moon Night Interview 3

very nice! I didn’t… I didn’t think about it, but if that’s what people want to see, I mean, I’ll think about it. (smiling)

You have mentioned in various interviews how you didn’t want to stereotype Layla as the action-adventure heroine we are used to seeing cinematically and you were influenced by Middle Eastern women for the same. What aspects did you choose to make Laila unique?

May Calamawi Moon Night Interview 4

I’ve said it before, that’s all… I know, I’ve taken a lot from my mother. I think she generally… especially for Laila because my mother has passed away – but she was a very strong woman, but also in a softer way. She was very focused on how she was and balanced that way, and I love that. And I find it, and I’m sure there are reasons culturally as to why women keep themselves that way in the Middle East, but it’s something that I… it’s what it is and I’m from there and I It’s like, okay. That’s why I wanted to bring that. And most importantly, in addition to trying to take from the Middle East, I wanted to show off a full round woman. When you think of someone who’s about to fight, someone who’s a badass, you almost give the emotion away because… that was something, I didn’t know how to do. I was like, ‘I’m not that big. I am insecure, and this is something I really want to bring up to Laila.’ So I’m glad I did what I could, so… (laughs)”
