Diesel Engines Will Be Seen Only Doing Shunting In Railways

Jhansi. In the coming days, the diesel engines at the station will only be used to move the coaches from one place to another (shunting). Actually, engines have started running on electricity in all sections of the division. New traction substations have started to meet the shortage of electricity. In such a situation, in order to save fuel (diesel) worth crores of rupees, the railways has gradually started stopping the operation of diesel locomotives.
Till a few years ago, trains used to run with electric locomotives only on the Delhi-Bhopal main track in the railway division. There was no OHE line on Jhansi- Kanpur, Jhansi- Manikpur and Bhimsen- Banda tracks. Trains and goods trains were run in these sections only with the help of diesel engines. For this, the division has 125 diesel engines, for whose repair a diesel shed has been built in Jhansi. But, now the power line (OHE) has been put in all the sections of the division. In order to run maximum engines with electricity, the work of increasing the capacity of traction substations is going on continuously. Electric engine consumes half of the fuel. Second, the age of the locomotives is also 35 years, according to that most of the locomotives of the railway division are getting old. This is the reason why railways is gradually stopping the use of diesel engines. Repair of electric locomotives has also been started in diesel shed. The Electric Shed has 240 locomotives out of which 25 have been handed over to the Diesel Shed for repairs.
