Deepika Padukone is one of the most outspoken persons in Bollywood when it comes to mental health issues. The ‘Piku’ actress opened up about her battle with depression in 2015. It’s been several years now and the star is going strong, yet remembering those days of struggle, Deepika recently revealed in an interview with a beauty magazine that her mother was the first to recognize that her Professional help is needed.
Speaking with Allure, Deepika said, “Talking about her experience with mental illness and standing up for what I believe in, I think it all happened at the same time”. She added a year before that, she remembers waking up completely driven, directionless and not wanting to face the world.
The ’83’ actress recalled crying bitterly in front of her mother. “I had this blockbuster year and everything was going perfectly. i was in this relationship [with the person] With whom I am now married. And everything was perfect. Like, how could life be any better? I think maybe it seemed the same to everyone around me including me,” shared the actress.
Deepika revealed that it was her mother who first recognized that her daughter needed professional help and connected her with a family friend and counselor to diagnose the actress with clinical depression. Worked closely with a psychiatrist. As per reports, the actor was immediately given medicine.
Deepika said that she struggled and suffered for many months as she did not know anyone who had gone through it. She felt that if she shared her experience and that even just one person could identify her symptoms, her purpose would be served.
On the work front, Deepika was last seen in Shakun Batra’s directorial venture Gahariyan opposite Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Panday and Dhairya Karva. The actress will now be seen in Fighter opposite Hrithik Roshan and Pathan opposite Shah Rukh Khan and John Abraham.
