Pilibhit. The increasing heat makes people feel bad. According to the population, the city has no drinking water resources. No government hand pumps have been installed in the city for the past three years. About half of the hand pumps installed earlier are in poor condition. With the increase in summer, the problem of drinking water in the city has worsened.
There are 27 districts in the city that have about 26,500 houses. The population is about 2.5 lakh. People long for clean drinking water in areas like Mohalla Jats Ka Chauraha, Dalchand, Beni Choudhary, Yashwantri Devi Temple Square, Asafjan, Sahukara, Dorilal, Punjabiyan, Filkhana etc. People have to drink contaminated water because pipelines are leaking.
By 2017, Jal Nigam had installed 606 hand pumps in public places in the city. These hand pumps are located in Mohalla Naugawan Chauraha, Roadways, Bagh Gulsher Khan, Dalchand, Beni Chaudhary, Punjabiyan, Feelkhana, Chowk Bazar, Kanshiram Colony, Nirjan Kunj Colony, Sungarhi etc. The responsibility for the maintenance of these hand pumps has been transferred to the community. In the past two years, 217 of the 606 government hand pumps installed in the city were damaged. People complained about it too, but the church didn’t care. People are worried about water in this scorching heat as the hand pump fails.
Pipeline work not completed in three years
In 2018, the government approved a budget of Rs 36.30 billion for laying water pipes in the city under the AMRUT program. However, due to the negligence of the building authorities, the pipeline construction work could not be completed in the past three years.
Diseases from drinking contaminated water
Dr. Ramakant Sagar, senior physician at the district hospital, says drinking unclean water causes many diseases. Drinking dirty water can lead to bacterial infection. Bathing with contaminated water can cause many skin diseases.
