Jhansi. In the Rabi season this year, a record purchase of around 20,000 tons of wheat was made compared to the last time. Last year, 73,793 tonnes of wheat were sold in state procurement centers, this time it was 93,300 tonnes. This is the case when the government has set the capacity of weighing in the procurement centers as well as the possibility for farmers to sell their products.
Sourcing began for the first time in the rabi season amid the excitement of the farmers. This time, procurement began on April 1st in 45 Jhansi centers. Here 10 centers of the food department, 29 of the PCF, 2 of the PCU, 3 of the Food Corporation of India, a center of the committee for the agricultural products market were opened. Initially, due to the Panchayat elections and then the second corona wave, procurement was sluggish, but procurement picked up speed later in May. In the past year, many farmers stopped selling wheat because of Corona. This time the government hadn’t even set a target for wheat sourcing, but this time sourcing was higher this year than last time. Last year, 73793 MT were procured while this year 93300 MT were procured. Previously, 75255 MT were procured in the period 2019-2020. This time a total of 20,242 farmers had registered. Most of them sold their products by reaching the centers. Instead of selling the produce, Rs 17133 lakh was paid to the farmers, while a total of 18426 lakh was payable. According to district marketing officer Anoop Kumar, the remaining amount will soon be transferred to the farmers’ account.
