The year 2023 has brought many exciting adventures for movie fans of the South. The two most beloved stars in the lineup Thalapathy Vijay and Ajith Kumar go head to head at the box office with their upcoming dramas Vaarisu and Thunivu respectively. As both the movies will hit theaters during Pongal on January 12 this year, the makers have piqued the interest of the fans by releasing the trailers for the movies. Let us tell you that these two stars share a release date after a long gap of almost 9 years.

varisu trailer

Thalapathy Vijay and Rashmika Mandanna’s family entertainer creators Vaarisu unveiled the trailer for the film today, January 4th. The preview introduces us to a perfect joint family with three brothers. However, when questioned about it, they only care to admit two. The reason for this is said to be the rebellious attitude of the younger brother (Thalapathy Vijay). The story continues when his family business faces a threat in the form of another ruthless businessman played by Prakash Raj. Faced with the unprecedented situation, the protagonist rises to the occasion and decides to settle scores. The catchy clip leaves us with the following questions, will he be able to save the family business from him? Will she win back the family’s approval from him? If the trailer is any indication, Warisu looks like a total masala artist. He covers all the essential ingredients like Action, Drama, Comedy, Romance, and Music.

Vamshi Paidipally has directed the Tamil drama starring R Sarath Kumar, Jayasudha, Khushbu, Srikanth, Shaam, Yogi Babu and Sangeetha Krish in supporting roles. Backed by Dil Raju under the production banner Sri Venkateswara Creations and PVP Cinemas, editing is handled by Praveen KL. While noted music composer S Thaman has provided the music for the drama, Karthik Palani is on board as the cinematographer.

thunivu trailer

Now coming to the trailer for Thunivu, the makers dropped the exciting preview just a few days ago. Directed by Valimai director H Vinoth, the project is a heist thriller that follows a cat-and-mouse chase between a group of bank robbers and the police. While Ajith Kumar is shown as the head of a gang of robbers, Manju Warrier is his partner in crime. Also, Samuthirakani plays the role of DGP Dayalan in Thunivu. The movie seems to be very layered with a lot of suspense. It seems to be a high dose of corporate adrenal congestion.

The cast of the film includes Veera, John Kokken, Ajay and Sibi Chandran in supporting roles among others. The highly anticipated drama is being financed by Valimai producer Boney Kapoor along with Zee Studios under the banner of Bayview Projects LLP. Thunivu’s music is composed by Ghibran, while Nirav Shah and Vijay Velukutty are part of the team as cinematographer and editor respectively.

After seeing both trailers, which one do you think will draw audiences from the preview to theaters?
