Ponniyin Selvan: I : Madras High Court bans release of pirated versions of Mani Ratnam’s directorial

Mani Ratnam’s long-awaited historical drama Ponniyin Selvan: I premiered today and is set to open to a stellar box office. Now the latest update on the project is that the Madras High Court has banned the release of pirated versions of the film. The producers had asked the court to ban the film from being released on hacked websites.

He stated that this would negatively affect the film’s business in theaters, as the audience would have free access to the film made on a generous budget. Now a total of more than 2000 websites have been banned for posting Ponniyin Selvan. Apart from this, the creators have also requested the fans to send the links related to the pirated copies of the work, so that they are not available. Meanwhile, fans have asked moviegoers to refrain from sharing videos or images from theaters to avoid spoilers.

With an all-star cast including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, Trisha and Jayam Ravi, Ponniyin Selvan has been the talk of the audience since its inception. Chiyaan Vikram and Karthi arrived at a movie theater at 5:30 am today to watch the first show of the first day of Ponniyin Selvan. The co-stars were enthusiastic about the positive audience response to the film.

For the clueless, Ponniyin Selvan has been in the news for almost 3 decades. The director initially tried to make this historical drama in 1994 and then gave it a second chance in 2011. However, both attempts were unsuccessful.
