Viola Davis became an award winner after receiving her Grammy award on Monday, February 6 (IST).
Undeclared Ego is an acronym that stands for Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony, the four most important awards and honors that an artist can receive in the world of entertainment in the United States. According to The Guardian, Viola Davis has become the 18th person to become the 10th Egote winner, thus joining an elite elite consisting of Audrey Hepburn, Mel Brooks, Andrew Lloyd and John Gielgud.
Viola Davis, the fourth black person to receive Igot status at the 65th Grammy Awards
The 2023 Grammy Awards are in full swing today at the Crpto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Davis’ victory comes at an important time as the United States is celebrating Black History Month. The first black person to win the Agott was musician John Legend, who won the honor in 2018 at just 39 years old. In addition to her, Jennifer Hudson and Whoopi Goldberg also have Igot status, making Viola the fourth black person and third black woman to enter the esteemed Igot winners’ club. The actress won the honor at the 2023 Grammys today for the audiobook recording of her memoir titled Finding Me.
Accepting the trophy onstage, Viola said, “Oh my gosh! I wrote this book to honor 6-year-old Viola, to honor her life, her joy, her trauma, everything. And it’s been such a journey. I’m just arrogant!
Other honors for Viola Davis
Viola has already been nominated for an Oscar four times. She won an Academy Award in 2017 in the Best Supporting Actress category for her portrayal of the baseball player’s wife in the film Fences. She previously won a Tony Award for Lead Actress for the same role she played in the original play on Broadway. She won another Tony Award in 2001 for Best Featured Actress in a Play for her performance in King Hedley II.
The 57-year-old actress is also a five-time Emmy nominee, winning the trophy in 2015 for her role on the popular series How to Get Away with Murder.
