FORENSIC is the story of mysterious serial murders in a sleepy hill station. Megha Sharma (Radhika Apte) is a sub-inspector in Mussoorie. She lives with her mother and Aanya (Harbandana Kaur). Aanya is the daughter of Megha’s late sister Divya (Zeba Sherrif). She was married to Abhay Khanna (Rohit Bose).

Aanya is the daughter of Megha’s late sister Divya (Zeba Sherrif). She was married to Abhay Khanna (Rohit Bose Roy) and was the mother of Aanya and her twin sister Aadya. 5 years ago Aadya died in a freak accident in Rishikesh while the whole family was coming to a fun fair. Unable to process the trauma, Divya committed suicide. Megha blamed Abhay for these deaths. She took Aanya by force. This development added to Abhay’s stress and he became depressed. Megha also broke up with Johnny Khanna (Vikrant Massey), Abhay’s brother, after this incident. In modern day, a young girl, Jennifer, goes missing from her school on her birthday. Her body is found the next day. Megha is tasked with handling the case through her rival, Ved Prakash Mathur (Subrat Dutta), as the SHO believes she can handle the case sensitively. The SHO also informs them that Johnny Khanna will be doing the forensic investigations. Megha is not happy with her development, but agrees with the decision anyway. Johnny goes to great lengths to gather vital information from the crime scene, Jennifer’s clothes, and so on. While the investigation is ongoing, Aditi (Shraddha Bhatt), another girl, also goes missing on her birthday. And again she is found dead. Based on the footprints found and other data, Johnny deduces that the killer is a 10 or 12 year old child. His sketch was made thanks to an eyewitness and is being circulated throughout Mussoorie. The city finds itself in a lockdown-like situation, with schools shutting down and parents banning their children from going out, fearing the suspected murderer child will attack their ward. One day, Aanya goes missing and Megha finds her with suspected murderer child Rohan (Nikhil Chawla). Rohan is arrested and all Mussoorie breathes a sigh of relief. However, Johnny has doubts as to whether Rohan is the killer. Meanwhile, another girl disappears on her birthday. This time, CCTV footage has been leaked showing that the kid who takes out the missing girl is none other than Aanya! What happens next forms the rest of the film.
