Birthday Special: 80 Years of Amitabh Bachchan, 40 Years of Satte Pe Satta but the magic still stays intact…

On October 11, fans and moviegoers celebrated the 80th birthday of acting legend Amitabh Bachchan. Leading multiplex cinema chain PVR, in association with the Film Heritage Foundation, organized a special film festival, Bachchan Back to the Beginning, to bring some of Amitabh Bachchan’s most iconic films back to the big screen. During the last week, the association organized Bachchan Films screenings on 22 screens and almost all the screenings of the event were full.

The author saw Satte Pe Satta on October 11 in a packed auditorium in Goregaon. Energy was in the air as the audience was thrilled by Big B’s every little gesture on the big screen. Contrary to the general belief that movie theaters are filled with more than 60 spectators, the auditorium was packed with young people, middle-aged couples and seniors. Audience demographics indicate that Bachchan is already a huge pop culture phenomenon, educating young people about this larger-than-life personality and megastar named Amitabh Bachchan.

The experience of watching the movie was surreal, to say the least. It seems that the audience was chatting with Bachchan and Bachchan was chatting with the audience. The atmosphere ensured that only half of the dialogue was heard in the older man’s voice, while the other half was played by the audience. The atmosphere was like a live music concert during songs like ‘Pyaar Hum’, ‘Satte Pe Satta’ and ‘Dilbar Mere’. All the men in the room thought it was Bachchan and all the women who were there thought it was Hema Malini, well, that’s the magic of cinema, because it has the ability to transport us to a world that is different from reality.

The jokes and jokes, although 40 years old, are as funny and fresh as if they were unfolding before your eyes for the first time. Kader Khan’s dialogue and Raj Sippy’s direction are as magical today as they were 40 years ago when Satte Pe Satta was released. The idea of Satte Pe Satta on the big screen resulted in the experience of a lifetime. The author did not survive Bachchan’s heyday in the 1970s and 1980s, but this re-release to celebrate his legacy is certainly a small preview of what would have happened on that day. Long live Bachchan… Long live cinema.
