Amitabh Bachchan mourns Raju Srivastava’s loss; recalls how the comedian had opened his eyes while in come when his voice recording was played
Famed comedian Raju Srivastava breathed his last on Wednesday September 21st after fighting the battle of life for 43 days. He died at AIIMS, where he was admitted to hospital on August 9 and put on a ventilator after going into cardiac arrest during a workout at a gym in south Delhi. As the entire nation mourned the loss of him, Amitabh Bachchan revealed that Raju had slightly opened his eyes while in a coma, when a recording of his voice was played in his ears.
According to previous reports, Big B had sent a voice note to Raju’s family and executed to bring the comedian back from a coma. “Just Raju. Get up Raju and keep teaching us all to laugh,” was the message sent by the megastar.
Big B was deeply saddened by Raju’s untimely death. Expressing his feelings, he said, “Another colleague, friend, and creative artist is leaving us. Sudden illness and (he) moved out prematurely, before his creative time was complete. Every morning in the morning, with them those who spend feeling and informing”.
Referring to the voice recording, Amitabh Bachchan wrote on his blog: “He was advised to send a voice to awaken his condition. I did and it rang in his ears for them in his kingdom. At one point he opened his eyes. A little more then, he is gone. The spirit of his times and the colloquial humor of his birth will remain with us. He was unique, open, sincere and full of humor. He smiles from heaven now and will be the cause of happiness with God.”
Raju Srivastava was cremated on September 22 at Nigambodh Ghat in New Delhi. His son Ayushmann performed the last rites according to Hindu rituals. Veteran poets and comedians Surendra Sharma, Ashok Chakradhar and filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, other comedians and friends including Sunil Pal and Ehsan Qureshi attended the funeral. The late comedian is survived by his wife Shikha and his children Antara and Ayushmann.
