“CNN will cease broadcasting in Russia while we continue to evaluate the situation and our next steps,” a spokesman said.

The move comes after Putin introduced a tough law or “fake news” on his military.
Washington:
CNN will stop broadcasting in Russia, the news channel said on Friday after introducing a new law there that could punish anyone who intentionally spreads “fake” news.
Russian officials have said that false information has been spread by Russia’s enemies such as the United States and its Western European allies in an attempt to sow discord among the Russian people.
Lawmakers passed amendments to the Criminal Code to make the dissemination of “fake” information a punishable offense that could result in fines or prison terms. He also imposed fines for anyone seeking sanctions against Russia after its invasion of Ukraine.
“CNN will cease broadcasting in Russia while we continue to evaluate the situation and our next steps,” a spokesman said.
News organizations including the BBC and Canadian Broadcasting Corp have also suspended reporting from Russia after the law was passed.
Russia has called its action in Ukraine a “special operation”.
