Mehrauni (Lalitpur). The government is making every effort to raise the water level, but the ancient well behind the block office is turning into a garbage can due to lack of maintenance. Alam is that after the water in that well dried up, no one paid any attention to it. All surrounding garbage including the BDO office is disposed of in this well.
The well in the block area sheds tears over its plight. The office is only 4.5m from this fountain and the BDO residence is 30m away. There is a temple of Hanuman ji next to the well and to the south are the offices of the Village Development Officer and JE. But nobody pays attention to the plight of this old well.
To fill the water by pouring a pucca roof over this fountain, iron garlands were installed to draw water by making a pier with pucca garters. It is said that ancient people quenched their thirst with the water from this fountain and that women (panihari) drew water from ropes from four in the morning. The locals have asked for the well to be cleaned.
