Appealed to the minister to save the existence of ponds
Bijnor. The Farmers Union (youth) has called for rainwater harvesting by beautifying the ponds under Savera Yojana.
District President Vikul Malik said in a motion to the Minister of Panchayati Raj that all of the Bijnor District’s large ponds should be beautified and fruit-bearing and shady plants planted around it as part of the Savera program. There are about one and a half thousand grams of panchayats in the Bijnor district, where a large number of ponds are losing their existence due to maintenance and illegal occupation, and some have lost their existence. In these old ponds, the water table remained normal due to rainwater harvesting, but illegal occupation of the ponds is taking place due to the neglect of the Gram Sabhas. The only solution for this is embellishment according to the state government’s Savera scheme. There is also a need to develop these ponds as parks to encourage water abstraction. In addition to the beautification and development of these large ponds in the park, fruit and shade trees should also be planted on the banks of these ponds as part of the MNREGA program. In addition, benches should be set up in these parks for seating with the Gram Sabha so that the existence of large ponds in the Gram Sabhas can be saved and these ponds can be rejuvenated with MGNREGA.
