Allahabad University To Give Honorary Degree To Lyricist Gulzar

The lyricist Gulzar will be conferred the honorary degree of D Litt in the proposed convocation ceremony on 23rd September by Allahabad University (IVV). Along with this, medals will be given to the meritorious of two sessions of the year 2018-19 and 2019-20 simultaneously in the ceremony and those who have completed their PhD studies in these sessions will be awarded. This decision was taken on Wednesday by the Vice Chancellor Prof. It was taken in the Academic Council meeting chaired by Sangeeta Srivastava.Due to Kovid, the convocation ceremony could not be organized in IVI last year. It was decided in the meeting of the Academic Council that all PhD holders of the session 2018-19 and 2019-20 will be awarded degrees and the meritorious of both these sessions will also be given gold medals. On the occasion of the convocation, a resolution was also passed to confer an honorary degree of DLIT by Allahabad University to lyricist Gulzar for his contribution in poetry, film and culture. To attend the function, University Rector and Governor Anandiben Patel, Chairman, UGC Prof. DP Singh and Chancellor Ashish Chauhan have given their consent.
Nation building, social service will also be taught in the university, in the meeting, the details of the proposed electives and basic courses in the four-year undergraduate program based on the new education policy were also presented. The course will have multiple entry and exit points. The course will focus on skill development. There will be a compulsory course of two credit points, which will be related to nation building and social service. There will be a foundation course and a skill development course. The student will have two options to choose the foundation course.In the first option, he can choose between English language and soft skills or any one Indian language. In the second, he will have the option to choose between Indian Civilization, Environmental Studies and Computer Application. Apart from this, 10 elective subjects were proposed, including Basic Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence, Human Biochemistry, Medicinal Trees and Plants, Scientific Discovery, Indian Classical Music, Fundamental Principles of Indian Constitution, Disaster Management, Environmental Issues and Climate Change, Indian History. Introduction and elements of economics are included.

On the Sanskrit translation of the motto of the university, Professor Umakant Yadav, the chairman of the Sanskrit department of the university, had sent a proposal on June 2 that the university’s motto (Kot Raimi Tot Arborsya) should be made in Sanskrit also. It was suggested that the motto be changed to ‘Yavatya: Shakha: Tawanto Vriksha: or Yavatya: Shakhastavanto Vriksha:’. The Academic Council put its stamp on this.

EVIV will take a new ambulance, health services will increase, in view of the possibility of a third wave of corona, two existing ambulances of the university have been repaired and a new ambulance is also being called for. It was also decided in the council meeting that health facilities in the university would be increased in view of the problems faced by the teachers and staff in the second wave.
