Since the air traffic does not start, Buddhist tourists who come to Kapilvastu have to arrive by road. The number of tourists arriving from countries such as Sri Lanka, Japan, Korea, Thailand remains relatively low due to the poor road conditions. In such a situation, when air traffic starts, the number of tourists from Buddhist countries paying homage to the main stupa in Kapilvastu will also increase.

The flight service is also included in the action plan drawn up as part of the Indian government’s ambitious Swadesh-Darshan program. A helipad in Kapilvastu has been completed in this direction. Air service will begin once the plan is implemented. So the helicopter can both land and take off.

On May 22, 1997, the then Prime Minister Mayawati laid the foundation stone for 123 billion-cost projects to improve air traffic in Kapilvastu. This also included a runway.According to Mayawati, the then Chief Minister Kalyan Singh, who took power in the state after six months, canceled the runway project in view of the uncertainty due to the proximity to Nepal.
