Two schools in Ghaziabad have been closed after five students were found infected with Kovid-19. Health department officials said they have set up camps that will test school staff and children for the next three days.

Officials said that two children are reported to be infected in Indirapuram’s school, while three children from Vaishali’s school are reported to be infected.

“One student from the school in Indirapuram is from Greater Noida while the other is a resident of Indirapuram. Three children of Vaishali’s school belong to the same class but their details are not available on our portal. Our team is in touch with the school authorities to get the details. Teaching is going on through online mode, while two schools have been closed for physical classes,” said Dr Rakesh Gupta, District Monitoring Officer.

“Our teams have started testing the staff and children for the next three days,” Gupta said.

The state government has issued instructions to close all schools in UP from January 16 to 23 due to the spike in COVID cases during the third wave.

Later, the bandh was extended till February 6 and schools were asked to conduct online classes. On February 5, the government issued another order stating that schools would be allowed to reopen for classes 9-12 on February 7 following strict COVID protocols.

School officials at the school in Indirapuram said the school was closed for this week, while school officials in Vaishali did not immediately comment but said they would respond.
